Why offer gym memberships?

Offering perks and benefits are a great way to increase employee satisfaction and retention. Give your employees an overall boost by helping them cover their gym membership costs.

What gym memberships are available through Justworks?

Justworks partners with both New York Health and Racquet Club and Town Sports International (operating under the names New York Sports Club, Boston Sports Club, Philadelphia Sports Club, and Washington Sports Club). The selection of which memberships are available to you will depend on your location.

How do I, as an admin, offer a gym membership to my employees?

Employers can offer gym memberships to their employees directly through Justworks by heading to their benefits center under “HR” and navigating to Offer more benefits. There, you’ll see a gym card, where you can sign up.

The gym card will only be available for companies headquartered in locations where we have gym offerings. If you think you should see the gym card but you can’t currently find it, please contact us.

How do I, as an individual, sign-up for a gym membership through Justworks?

If your company is currently offering gym memberships, you’ll be able to navigate to You > Benefits > Wellness Perks. In the Wellness Perks section, there will be an enrollment card and you can sign up directly in Justworks. If you don’t currently see the option but your company is offering gym, please contact us.

How much does it cost?

Monthly membership costs vary by gym and can range from $39.99 - $79.99 per month. 

Through Justworks, employees and their spouses or domestic partners have access to lower membership rates than individuals are eligible for on their own, with discounts reaching as high as 50% for some memberships .

How does billing work for individuals?

As an employee, monthly fees are deducted automatically from payroll on an after-tax basis. The amount owed will be billed ahead of the membership month, and it will be billed once a month on the second payroll. For example, a June membership will be billed for in the second payroll of May (which normally occurs on or near May 31st).

We will not bill you for the month you sign up. We will only start billing you for the following month. For example, if you sign up on Jan 4th, we will not bill you any amount for Jan 4-31. We will only start billing you for your February membership.

How does billing work for companies?

In addition to the discount, employers have the option to contribute a dollar amount of their choice toward employee memberships. Simply pass along the discounted rates, or delight your employees by covering a portion of the membership—or the entire monthly fee.

If you choose to contribute toward the monthly membership, we’ll charge you each billing cycle for all participating employees. Can I sign up at any time?

Yes, you can sign up at any time. You'll be able to visit your benefits center at any time and complete enrollment for this benefit whenever you'd like.

When will my membership start?

Regardless of the gym you pick, your membership will start the next business day after you sign up for a gym membership. We will not bill you for the month you sign up (that one is free!). We'll start billing you for the following month of membership and you'll see that charge on the 2nd payroll of the month prior. Billing always happens in advance of the month of membership. For example, if you sign up on May 15, the month of May is free. Your first bill will happen on the May 31 payroll and it will be for the month of June.

Can I cancel my membership at any time?

The cancellation policy varies by gym membership.

For Sports Clubs memberships, you can cancel at any time and your cancellation will be effective at the end of the month.

For New York Health and Racquet Club, a minimum 6-month commitment is required and cancellation will be effective at the end of the month. For example, if you request a cancellation on August 15th, the effective cancellation date will be August 31st.
