Employment Practices Liability Insurance

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) provides coverage for claims made by employees, former employees, or potential employees. It covers discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, and other employment-related issues. As a Justworks customer, your company is covered under Justworks' EPLI policy with Lloyd's of London.

Why do I need EPLI?

Small businesses can be particularly vulnerable to employment claims. EPLI helps protect your company against costly employment lawsuits from employees, former employees, or potential employees.

Because of the sometimes costly nature of wrongful employment practices lawsuits, Justworks requires EPLI coverage for all its customers. Although EPLI is not a legal requirement, when you start with Justworks, you're enrolled in coverage under our EPLI policy.

 

What's Covered?

  • Wrongful termination, failure to hire or promote, or demotion
  • Discrimination
  • Harassment (including sexual harassment)
  • Retaliation
  • Defamation
  • Negligent supervision or hiring
  • Certain other employment-related claims

What's not covered?

  • Third-party discrimination claims
  • Wage and hour claims, such as overtime and minimum wage violations
     

How much does it cost?

You only need to pay an administration fee for Justworks' EPLI policy. The fee is $3.00 per covered employer per month.

I have a potential EPLI claim. What do I do now?

If an incident occurs that may give rise to a claim under Justworks' EPLI policy, email your Justworks Account Manager or our Customer Success (support@justworks.com) team right away.

A note about coverage

Coverage under Justworks' EPLI policy is on a claims-made basis. That means that the policy only applies to claims made, submitted, and arising from events occurring during the term of the customer service agreement.
