Paying employees in Georgia
When hiring employees in new states, you will need to register for relevant state tax accounts to facilitate their payment. In Georgia, you must be registered with the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) and the Georgia Department of Labor (DOL).

Your Georgia Accounts and Rate Info
Georgia requires you to register with the Georgia Department of Revenue online for your Withholding account. After you register, you should receive your account number and tax deposit schedule instantly. For unemployment insurance, you will need to register online with the GA DOL, and you should receive your account number instantly after registration.

Locate your Georgia Withholding Account Number:

Locate your Unemployment Account Number and Tax Rate:
- Account Number
- FInd this on any notice from the DOL
- Contact the agency at (404) 232-3300
- Sign into your DOL Employer Portal—sign in, and under your business's name, click DOL account number.
- Tax Rate
- You can locate your unemployment tax rate in the DOL Employer Portal by signing in and clicking on the DOL account number under your business's name.

Entering State Tax Info in Justworks Payroll
Once you registered with the State and have a valid GA address added to your company’s offices, you can add your account info in Justworks Payroll by navigating to:
- Company > Settings in the left navigation bar
- Under ‘Company tax info’ click into “Georgia” to edit the state tax information
In your Justworks Payroll account, you’ll want to enter your Georgia Withholding Account ID and your GA Department of Labor Account Number. In addition to the account numbers, you’ll need to enter your GA Unemployment Rate.
Third-party admin access
As your payroll provider, Justworks Payroll will utilize the provided account information to manage and report your GA tax liabilities. Occasionally, the state may issue notices related to payroll taxes.
Justworks Payroll can examine these notices if granted Third-party admin access to your GA state tax account. During onboarding, we will request that you sign state specific TPA forms, which authorizes us to handle and report your taxes to the state.
Ensure Justworks Payroll has TPA access for your GA State Tax account by following the steps below.
Double check if you have an administrator listed on your GA state tax account:
- Contact the state’s Employer Portal Help Desk at (404) 232-3180 and check if there’s an administrator listed on the account.
- If there is an administrator listed on the account, inform the state that you want to remove the current administrator from your company’s account.
- Provide your company’s contact name and number for follow-up confirmation of the administrator's removal.
- The state will notify you once the administrator has been removed from your account.
- Contact Justworks Payroll to confirm the removal, so we can add ourselves as the new administrator.
Why is this important?
Justworks Payroll calculates tax liabilities as part of payroll processing. If we cannot access your GA state tax accounts, we must return any unremitted tax liabilities to your company bank account, requiring you to remit and file your company’s state taxes manually.
