Identity Theft occurs when a fraudster steals parts of your identity to impersonate you.

Personal Identifying information is not limited to your name, date of birth, email or mailing address. Among other things, it includes your

  • Social security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number
  • Taxpayer identification number
  • Financial Account or Credit Card Numbers

Fraudsters can use this information to establish new accounts or gain access to accounts that you own by impersonating you.

Tips to Protect Your Identity

Never give personal information over the phone or internet unless you initiated the contact. Justworks will never ask you for your password to your account and will never ask you to send social security numbers or other sensitive information via email.

Shred unwanted important documents containing personal information before discarding them. Your information can be stolen from the trash, if it is not properly discarded.

Memorize your social security number or other government identification numbers.

Check your credit reports regularly. Did you know you can freeze your credit reports at all three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, Transunion)? Keep control of your identity and lift the freezes as needed.

Report thefts of wallets, credit / debit cards, financial statements or checks to law enforcement and your financial institution. Be sure to update your new account information with your employer or login to Justworks to update your bank account.
