What is an HNO?
HNO stands for Health Network Only. HNOs operate like HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) but they have the benefit of not requiring a referral to go to a specialist. Like HMOs, the network is smaller.
Why offer an HNO?
HNO plans offer lower prices in exchange for limiting your coverage to a smaller HNO network.
Where are HNOs available?
There are 3 HNO plans available through Justworks. All three are available in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
Be aware: companies in Maryland must have 50+ employees to receive health insurance through Justworks.
Companies with their primary address in any of the four states listed above have access to all HNO plans
Employees have to live in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Washington D.C. to enroll in the HNO plan or plans the company is offering.
If a company is offering an HNO plan, employees of that company in any of the four above states have access to the plan.
For example, if a company in D.C. is offering an HNO plan and they hire an employee who lives in a different state where HNOs are available (like Pennsylvania), that employee will be able to enroll in the plan (including, obviously, the company’s employees in D.C.).
