South Carolina is what's referred to as a client-reporting state for unemployment insurance. Justworks needs your company’s information to report unemployment taxes under your unemployment account.
In order to report, Justworks needs your South Carolina Unemployment Account number and Unemployment Tax Rate.
We don't have a South Carolina Unemployment Account, what do we do?
If you don't yet have an account yet, you can create one here.
Next, Justworks will need to receive access to your account. Please reach out to Justworks for the appropriate pre-filled Power of Attorney form to complete. The Power of Attorney form must be signed by the same person who signed the State Registration. Once completed, please send it back to Justworks so that we can follow up with the state on your behalf.
Closing your withholding account
To close out your withholding account, fill out a C-278 Form and send it directly to the state. This can also be done online through your Mydorway portal. For the C-278 Form please:
- Check "Withholding" on the upper left hand side and enter your company's SC UI Account Number and the Date of Final Pay Check (the date prior to your Justworks start date).
- Fill out #1-9 with the exception of #2 and #8 (if applicable). Please note Page 2 is not needed since only one account (the Withholding account) is being closed.
- Be sure to sign and date the bottom of the form before submitting it to the state!
If you’re having trouble completing the online account setup process, please contact the state’s customer service line for assistance.
