What is Paid Leave Oregon?
Paid Leave Oregon is a new program that allows individuals to take paid time off for many of life’s most important moments that impact our families and our health and safety.
As Oregon is a PEO reporting state, all employers on Justworks, with at least one employee working in Oregon, are required to participate and contribute to the program.
Paid Leave Oregon can be used to take up to 12 weeks off from work in a year. Once eligible, individuals can use Paid Leave Oregon to take time away from work for family, medical, or safe leave. This includes:
- Birth of a child
- Bonding with a child
- In the first year after birth
- Through adoption
- When a child is placed in your home through foster care
- To care for a family member with a serious illness or injury
- To care for yourself when you have a serious illness or injury
- For survivors of sexual assaults, domestic violence, harassment, or stalking
Who is eligible?
All Oregon employees will see a new deduction on their paychecks starting January 1, 2023.
Eligible employees can take leave starting September 3, 2023. Employees become eligible for taking leave after earning $1,000 in wages during the year before applying for Paid Leave Oregon. This can be earned across multiple employers.
