This article is about Justworks Payroll. What product am I using?
Whether your company is transitioning to the Justworks PEO platform, a new payroll provider, or closing operations, there are some key details to keep in mind when moving off of Justworks Payroll.
One of the main factors to consider is that Justworks Payroll processes payments under your company’s own EIN, meaning that tax filings and state tax accounts are completed using your company’s information. With this in mind, you would need to decide how Justworks Payroll should handle these tax matters for your company:
- W-2s and 1099s: Will you need Justworks Payroll to generate W-2s and/or 1099s for your company’s members, or will your new provider handle this?
- Quarterly tax returns: Will you need Justworks Payroll to file tax returns for the current quarter, or will your new provider handle this?
- Annual tax returns: Will you need Justworks Payroll to annual tax returns, or will your new provider handle this?
- State tax accounts: Will you need Justworks Payroll to mark state tax returns as ‘final’ to close the accounts and prevent the state from reaching out about the accounts, or will these accounts need to remain open so that your new provider can file under them?
Please note that there is a one-time service fee of $200 for completing tax returns for offboarded companies.
You will also need to know your company’s last pay date through Justworks Payroll, as you will no longer be able to process any payments through the platform after your company’s termination date.
How to Offboard from Justworks Payroll
If your company needs to close its Justworks Payroll account, you can reach out to our Support Team at support@payroll.justworks.com, and a member of our team will make sure the process goes smoothly for you.
Our team will request the following information:
- Reason for leaving the platform
- Final pay date through the platform
- Primary contact name and forwarding address
- Whether Justworks Payroll should complete quarterly and/or year end filings for your company
- Whether Justworks Payroll should close your company’s state tax accounts
Once this information has been submitted, we will be able to process your company’s offboarding, and a team member will follow up with you to confirm the account has been closed.
Please note that the admin fees for Justworks Payroll occur on the 15th of every month for any payments processed through the platform the month prior, so you may receive a final monthly charge after your account has been closed.
