Maryland is what's referred to as a PEO-reporting state for unemployment insurance. Justworks will report unemployment taxes under the Justworks unemployment account number. Customers will be subject to the Justworks state unemployment rate. Please suspend or close your previous unemployment account.
Closing MD Unemployment and Withholding Accounts:
Please follow the steps outlined below to close your MD Unemployment account:
- Complete the Business Transfer Report (you can find and download this document at the bottom of this page) as follows:
- Complete the “Previous Business Entity Information” section with your business information, including your unemployment account number and list of principals.
- Sign and date at the bottom.
- Send the form back to Justworks and we’ll input the Justworks information and send to the state.
Please follow the steps outlined below to close your MD Withholding account:
- Let your current payroll provider know to file MW506FR when they file their final return for Maryland.
