How do I register for my Optum Financial account?
You’ll only need to create an Optum Financial account once and you’ll manage your Commuter, HSA, and/or FSA benefits from the same employee dashboard. You can register your account with Optum Financial by following the instructions below. Enrolling in your Optum Financial Benefits
Before setting up your Optum Financial account, you’ll need to enroll and set up your benefits in your Justworks account first. You only need to enroll in one of the benefits through Optum to begin the registration process.
Enrolling in commuter benefits on Justworks
Step 1: Login to Justworks and go to benefits on the left hand side.
Step 2: From there go to ancillary benefits at the top and then commuter. Select “Enroll.”
Step 3: Click on the “Get Started.”
Step 4: From there you will be taken to the Optum Financial registration screen to complete setting up your account and begin placing orders. (See Registering your account with Optum Financial)
Enrolling in FSA or HSA on Justworks
Step 1: Login to Justworks and go to benefits on the left-hand side.
Step 2: From there go to health benefits at the top and then Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account. Click “Enroll.”
Step 3: Complete the steps in setting up your contributions.
Step 4: You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to complete the Optum Financial registration process and setting up your account to begin managing your account.
NOTE:You can only sign up for an FSA during new hire open enrollment or during FSA open enrollment towards the end of the year. You can enroll in an HSA at any time if you are enrolled in a qualified high deductible healthcare plan.
From there you will be taken to the Optum Financial registration screen to complete setting up your account. (See Registering your account with Optum Financial)
Registering your account with Optum Financial
If you are a first-time Optum Financial user, after you’ve completed setting up your benefits in your Justworks account, you will need to register for your Optum Financial account.
Please Note: If you are registering for the first time to access an upcoming HSA or FSA plan, please wait until your plan's effective date to register your account as Optum Financial may not have your account information prior to this date.
Steps to Register:
Visit the Justworks // Optum Financial login page. You will be asked for your:
- Date of birth
- Last four digits of your Social Security number
- Zip code of your mailing address in Justworks
Please be sure that the information you are inputting matches the information that is recorded in Justworks.
Next, you will be prompted to complete a Two Factor Authentication (2FA) for your account via one of the following methods:
- Have a 2FA code shared via text, call, or email utilizing the phone number and email on file with Optum (this should match your records in Justworks)
- Enter the last 4 digits of your Optum payment card (aka Justworks Benefit Card).
When will your card arrive?- HSA: 7-10 business days* after you pass the Customer Identification Program (“CIP”) for HSA. To learn more about CIP please visit our Help Center Article here.
- FSA: Payment cards ship 7-10 business days* after your plan's effective date for FSA.

Commuter: You won’t have a card issued prior to registering your account. An alternate 2FA option should be selected.
- Enter your Optum Bank account number
*Due to increased volume at the start of a new plan year, cards for first-time HSA/FSA account holders with plans effective January 1 will experience longer delivery windows than the standard 7-10 business days. You should register your account utilizing an alternate 2FA method and submit claims via the app until your card arrives.
After 2FA is complete, you will be able to create login credentials and use those credentials moving forward to access your account.

What if I already have an Optum Financial account?
If you already have an existing Optum Financial account from a previous employer you will still need to go through the new registration and set up a new account.
Any existing balances you may have from a previous employer should be spent down as it will not be able to transfer over to the Justworks account.
