If it is your first time logging into your Optum Financial account for commuter, HSA, and/or FSA benefits you access through Justworks, you will first need to register for an account.
How do I register for my Optum Financial account?
You’ll only need to create an Optum Financial account once and you’ll manage your Commuter, HSA, and/or FSA benefits from the same employee dashboard. You can register your account with Optum Financial by following the instructions below. Enrolling and registering your Optum Financial Benefits
Before setting up your Optum Financial account, you’ll need to enroll and set up your benefits in your Justworks account first. You only need to enroll in one of the benefits through Optum to begin the registration process.
Enrolling in commuter benefits on Justworks
Step 1: Login to Justworks and go to benefits on the left hand side.
Step 2: From there go to ancillary benefits at the top and then commuter. Select “Enroll.”
Step 3: Click on the “Get Started.”
Step 4: From there you will be taken to the Optum Financial registration screen to complete setting up your account and begin placing orders. (See Registering your account with Optum Financial)
Enrolling in FSA or HSA on Justworks
Step 1: Login to Justworks and go to benefits on the left-hand side.
Step 2: From there go to health benefits at the top and then Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account. Click “Enroll.”
Step 3: Complete the steps in setting up your contributions.
Step 4: You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to complete the Optum Financial registration process and setting up your account to begin managing your account.
NOTE:You can only sign up for an FSA during new hire open enrollment or during FSA open enrollment towards the end of the year. You can enroll in an HSA at any time if you are enrolled in a qualified high deductible healthcare plan.
From there you will be taken to the Optum Financial registration screen to complete setting up your account. (See Registering your account with Optum Financial)
Registering your account with Optum Financial
After you’ve completed setting up your benefits in your Justworks account and you’re ready to register for your Optum Financial account, you’ll be taken to the registration page.
You will be asked for your:
- Date of birth
- Last four digits of your Social Security number
- Zip code of your mailing address in Justworks
Please be sure that the information you are inputting matches the information that is recorded in Justworks.
The screen may also include a field for a payment card number and a checkbox that says My Account Does Not Have A Payment Card Associated With It. If you have enrolled in HSA or FSA you will need to wait for your payment card to arrive to complete registration. If you have only enrolled in commuter select My Account Does Not Have a Payment Card Associated With It.
If you have signed up for FSA or HSA benefits with Optum Financial:
- You will need to wait for your payment card to arrive in the mail before you can complete account registration. You should receive it within 5-7 business days of the start of your plan.*
- After you complete registration, you’ll be able to set up a username and password and place your order.
*to receive your benefit card for your HSA you must first pass the Certification Identification Program (“CIP”). To learn more about CIP please visit our Help Center Article here.
If you are waiting on your card, but also want to place a commuter order:
In the event that you are unable to register your Optum account because you are waiting on your HSA/FSA card or experienced an error and are awaiting assistance, but you’d like to place or manage your commuter order before the monthly deadline, you can select the blue link at the bottom labeled "I have a Commuter account".
From there you will be asked for your SSN, date of birth, and zip code.

What if I already have an Optum Financial account?
If you already have an existing Optum Financial account from a previous employer you will still need to go through the new registration and set up a new account.
Any existing balances you may have from a previous employer should be spent down as it will not be able to transfer over to the Justworks account.
