This article is about Justworks EOR (Employer of Record). What product am I using?

If you’re eligible for benefits through Justworks in Canada, you’ll submit your enrollment directly in Justworks during your open enrollment window. During enrollment, you can review your personal information, add dependents, select or decline coverage, and submit your elections for processing with Sun Life. This guide walks you through each step of the process and explains what to expect after you submit your enrollment.

Before you begin: You’ll receive an email from Justworks when your open enrollment window opens. Use the link in that email to access your Benefits Center and start your enrollment.

Step 1: Start your enrollment

When your open enrollment window opens, you’ll receive an email from Justworks. Click the link in the email to go to your Benefits Center and begin the enrollment flow.

Step 2: Confirm your personal details

Review the personal information on file, including your:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Date of hire
  • Email address

These fields are read-only on this screen.

Need to update your details?

Go to your member profile in Justworks to make changes. Updates made there will be reflected going forward.

Step 3: Add or update your dependents

Add any dependents — such as a spouse or children — you’d like to include under your coverage. For each dependent, you’ll need to provide:

  • Full name
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • Relationship to you (e.g. spouse, child)

Dependents added here will be available to select when you choose your coverage in the next step.

Step 4: Select your coverage

You’ll see the employer-provided plans available to you, including coverage details, employer contributions, and a full cost breakdown. Review each plan carefully before making your selections.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Health and dental insurance: To enroll in health or dental coverage, you must also enroll in all other available insurance plans. You cannot select individual plans in isolation.
  • Plan details: Click the PDF icon next to “Plan details” to download a summary of any plan.
  • Declining coverage: You can formally decline during this step. Taking no action does not count as declining — you must actively decline in-app. A Refusal of Benefits Form will be emailed to you after you submit your declination.

Step 5: Review and submit

The Review Your Selections page gives you a full summary of your choices before you finalize. You can go back to make changes at any point. When everything looks correct, submit your enrollment.

Changes after submitting

Once submitted, changes cannot be made through the Justworks platform. If you need a correction, contact international-support@justworks.com right away — adjustments may still be possible before your enrollment is finalized with Sun Life.

Step 6: Sign the Sun Life enrollment form

After submitting, you’ll receive a pre-filled Sun Life enrollment form by email. The subject line will read:

2026_CAN_INTLBENENROLL – Signature requested by Justworks

Review your member and dependent details, add your beneficiary information, and sign the form. You’ll receive a confirmation email once it’s been signed.

What happens next?

Once you’ve signed the Sun Life form, the Justworks team will complete your enrollment directly with Sun Life. You’ll then receive a follow-up email with your member ID and instructions for logging in to your Sun Life portal.

Your coverage effective date is the date your enrollment is processed with Sun Life. This will be confirmed in your Sun Life welcome email.
