Common Questions (Large Group Plans)
When do employers make health insurance plan selections?
Beginning on August 8, 2024, employers will be able to make decisions about the health insurance plans and contributions the company will offer to U.S.-based employees. This employer plan selection period is from 8/8/24 - 8/29/24. The deadline to submit your company plan selections is August 29, 2024.
Can I update my plan selections and contributions after submitting them?
You may change your company plan selections on or before 8/29/24 for the 11/1/24 - 10/31/25 plan year. After 8/29/24, you won't be able to change the plans you've selected, but you can still make edits to your contributions until 9/16/24 for the same plan year.
When do my employees select health insurance plans for Open Enrollment?
Employee Open Enrollment will run from 9/17/24 - 9/26/24. Those elections will become effective on 11/1/24. Employees will still need to complete Open Enrollment, even if they intend to choose the same plans they were enrolled in this year.
If employees do not enroll in health insurance now, when is their next opportunity to enroll?
If an employee is currently enrolled in an active health insurance plan and does not take action during open enrollment, their current plan will automatically renew. If they do not currently have an active health insurance plan, however, their opportunities to enroll in a new plan are annually during open enrollment or if they experience a qualifying life event (QLE) at any point during the year.
Do employees still need to select a plan during open enrollment if they’re already enrolled in health insurance?
Employees who are currently enrolled in health insurance will be auto-enrolled into the same plans and coverage tier as long as your company offers that same plan in the new plan year. If the same plan is not offered, the employee will be enrolled in the most affordable available plan offered. However, it is possible that the cost or coverage details of their current plan may change, so it is recommended that you actively review and confirm your plans, coverage tier, and dependents during open enrollment.
When do new plans start?
