What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
At Justworks, your security is a top priority. To help further protect your sensitive information, Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled on your account.
How does Multi-Factor Authentication work?
Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your login process. After entering your username and password, you will verify your identity using a second method: a verification code delivered through your phone or an authentication app, or a passkey that uses your biometrics (such as Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello).
The MFA methods you can choose are a passkey (recommended), an authentication app, phone-SMS, or phone-voice call. Google Authenticator or Okta verify are the two authentication apps supported by Justworks.
Passkeys are Justworks' preferred method of MFA because they are the most phishing-resistant and easiest to use.
It is recommended that you set up an additional MFA method if you lose your phone or change your number.
How do I enable or update my delivery method?
You can update your delivery method from your Justworks account. Navigate to You > Profile and select the Login & security tab.”
Click "Update Settings” under Multi-Factor Authentication, which will take you to the next screen where you can select your preferred delivery method to receive codes. Multi-Factor Authentication is mandatory for all Justworks users.
Available methods
Passkey (Recommended)
A passkey lets you verify your identity using your device's biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or Windows Hello) or a physical security key (such as a YubiKey). Passkeys rely on your biometric profile to sign you in. Unlike one-time codes, passkeys are cryptographically bound to justworks.com and cannot be phished, intercepted, or stolen via SIM-swapping.
Set up
To set up a passkey, click "Set Up" next to the Passkey option. Your device will prompt you to verify with your fingerprint, face scan, or device PIN. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete enrollment.
Where your passkey is stored:
If you save a passkey to your Chrome browser profile, it is linked to that specific device and browser. You will not be able to use it on other devices.
To use your passkey across devices, save it to a password manager that supports syncing: Apple iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password, or LastPass.
You can also use a physical FIDO2 security key (such as a YubiKey). Hardware keys are device-specific and do not sync.
Authentication App
An authentication app is a secure MFA option. To get started, you’ll need to download an authenticator app, either Google Authenticator or Okta Verify. Once you’ve done so, open the app and scan the barcode on the screen.
Enter the 6-digit verification code you receive and click “Enable.”
Phone-SMS
Note: Users in Ireland, Philippines, Singapore, and UAE cannot use "SMS" or "Voice call" authentication methods.
To set up Phone-SMS, you will be required to provide a phone number to receive a verification code. Once you enter the phone number, you can click “Send code,” and you’ll receive a text message with a 6-digit verification code.
Enter the verification code and click “Enable.” Please note, standard text messaging rates and data may apply.
Phone-Voice
Note: Users in Ireland, Philippines, Singapore, and UAE cannot use "SMS" or "Voice call" authentication methods.
To set up a phone-voice call as a delivery option, enter a valid mobile number and click “Call now.” You’ll receive a call with a 6-digit verification code. Enter the code and click “Enable.”
An authentication app, such as Google Authenticator or Okta Verify is the most secure delivery method.
