This article is about Justworks PEO and Payroll. What product am I using?
Analytics is a native experience built into Justworks that helps you review workforce and payroll trends over time. You'll see interactive data visualizations that highlight changes in headcount and compensation, and you’ll have access to a Report Builder that allows you to build custom reports for your specific needs.
To access Analytics, navigate to the Analytics workspace in the left-hand navigation. Only admins with “Reporting” permissions can view and access Analytics. Once you’re in the Analytics workspace, you can opt in to the beta using the banner at the top of the page.
After opting in, you will see Payroll and People cards at the top of the workspace. These cards provide an overview of your organization’s payroll and people insights. Click a card to open interactive data visualizations and explore trends in more detail.
Payroll insights
The Payroll page gives you a view into compensation and employer contributions trends across your organization, combining a visual summary with detailed payroll data below.

Use the Date range dropdown to select the period you want to review, including year to date, the last three or six months, the past year, or a custom range. You can also refine the view with Filter by profile type, department, and office. Any selections you make are reflected in both the visualization and the table.
Payroll data visualization
At the top of the page, the visualization shows payroll amounts over time. You can change the timeframe to focus on a specific period: year to date, last 3 months, last 6 months, last year, or custom range. Any timeframe you select applies to both the visualization and the table.

You can also customize how the data is displayed:
- Toggle between a line chart and a bar chart
- Add headcount to compare compensation alongside workforce size
- Segment by department, profile type, office, country, or leave it unsegmented

Tip: Hover over the visualization to see exact values for a specific point in time.
Payroll table
The Payroll table lets you view payroll data from different perspectives. You can change how the table is grouped to review information by person, profile type, department, office, or country.

The table refreshes as you update the timeframe.
People insights
The People page focuses on workforce changes over time, helping you track how your team grows or shifts across different parts of the organization. Like the Payroll page, it pairs a visualization with a supporting table.

At the top of the page, the visualization and table update based on the Date range you choose, such as year to date, recent months, or a custom timeframe. You can further narrow what you see with Filter, selecting the desired profile type, department, and office. These settings apply across the entire page.
People data visualization
On the People page, the visualization lets you view headcount or new hires and terminations. You can customize the display by:
- Switching between a line chart and a bar chart
- Segmenting the data by department, profile type, office, country, or leaving it unsegmented

Tip: Move your cursor across the chart to view values for specific dates.
People table
The People table provides additional detail based on how you choose to group the data. You can view workforce information by person, profile type, department, office, or country.

When grouped by person, the table includes:
- Profile type
- Department
- Office
- Country
- Hire date
- Termination date (if applicable)
For all other groupings, the table displays headcount totals. The table updates automatically based on the timeframe you select.
Customizing your view
When you first open the Payroll or People page, you’ll see the default view. By default:
- The date range is set to year to date
- All filters (profile type, department, and office) are included
- No segment is applied
- The visualization is displayed as a line chart
If you change the date range, filters, segmentation, or chart type, you’ll have the option to Save as default view. Saving a default view lets you return to the Analytics workspace and see insights in the same format each time. You can also select Reset at any time to return to the original default view.
Saving page-specific views
You can save different default views depending on the page you’re on:
- On the Payroll page, you can save a view that includes headcount alongside compensation data
- On the People page, you can choose new hires and terminations instead of headcount and save that as your default view
Each page keeps its own saved view, so you can tailor how Payroll and People insights appear when you revisit Analytics.
Downloading and exporting data
With Analytics, it’s easy to download data visualizations and tables. Simply click on the Download chart button in the visualization to download a PNG. For the table, click on the Download button to download a CSV or excel file of the table.
Building custom reports
You can also build custom reports within Analytics when you need to take a different look at your data. To access the Report Builder, head to the Analytics page and click the Create report button in the top right hand corner.
Presently, the Report Builder allows you to customize a report using your company census dataset. (More datasets are coming.) This gives you the ability to obtain a highly specific, tailored view of the data that exceeds what you get in the pre-built Company Census report.
Use Filters to select the fields you want to include, select the desired timeframe from the Date range dropdown, and download the table as a CSV or XSLX file whenever you’re ready.
